Cleaning Electronics

I don’t know about you but I sometimes don’t think about cleaning my electronics until they no longer work properly. I have had to put the electronics on my cleaning schedule just as I do other household chores. The benefits of this is they last longer, are not breeding germs and I can actually see the screens on the appliance!

Here are some tips to help keep your electronics clean:

  • Wipe the outside of your DVD player with a soft microfiber cloth. For grime or sticky stains, dip the cloth in alcohol and wipe down. For the inside of the DVD player, invest in a DVD disc cleaner. It looks like a regular DVD disc, and you play it as you would a DVD.
  • To help your cordless phones power up properly, rub an eraser over the metal contacts on the handset and phone base. It will help the phone connect properly and charge fully.
  • For your cellphone, wipe it down every few days with an antibacterial wipe. Gets off all the germs and gunk from the keys, screen and base.
  • For your computer keyboard, remove the oil residue from your fingers by wiping the individual keys with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol or facial toner.
  • To clean your TV and computer screens, turn them off  and wipe them down with a soft cloth (never paper towels as they may scratch the screen) dipped in alcohol.
  • If your computer mouse is the ball type, unscrew the back and remove the ball. Wipe off the ball and then use a cotton swab and tweezers to clean out the mouse.
  • To protect your small electronics like your MP3 players, cell phones, and cameras, you can buy stylish protectors and cases for them. Or you can take a clean child’s or baby’s sock to cover and protect your electronic when not in use.

If you have any other ideas on how to keep your electronics clean, please leave me a comment with your tip!
