Pink Playstation 2
Female Gamers Represent!

pinkps2b

There’s something about female gamers that drive the video gaming population – a sector of society that is predominantly populated by males – absolutely crazy.

Being female, of course, is the obvious reason.

But being a video game enthusiast, well, that’s the clincher.

Somehow, being a gamer makes a girl more attractive in the eyes of guys.  After all, topics of conversation won’t be a problem between a guy and a girl who both enjoy video games.  Dating ideas won’t be difficult to conceptualize as well.  A fragging session of Killzone 2?  An Ulduar raid in World of Warcraft?  A rank farming run in Call of Duty 4, only because Call of Duty 5 sucks?  Possible activities are limitless!

But most guys still believe that female gamers are stuff of legends.  These guys think that female gamers don’t exist.  A female in game name (IGN) will not catch the interest of a male gamer.  He’ll just think that the IGN belongs to another guy who wants an outlet his feminine side.

But female gamers do exist, and because of all the naysayers and non-believers in the world of gaming, there is a pressing need for female gamers to stand up and represent themselves.

And one good way to tell the world that you are a female gamer is by owning a decidedly feminine gaming console.

Like a pink Playstation 2.

Granted that the Playstation 2 belongs to the previous generation of consoles, the system still controls 61% of the gaming market.  In Japan, the Playstation 2 is still the fourth biggest selling non-portable console in the market, trailing the Xbox 360 by the slimmest of margins.  With a library of more than 6,000 games, the PS2 is expected to remain a viable player in the video game market for at least 2 to 3 more years despite the presence of the newer generation of consoles.

The Playstation2 did so many things right.

And one of them is by releasing a pink colored unit for female gamers.  It’s not really a new product.  The pink PS2 was released way back in the holiday season of 2006.  But it is one of the best selling color varieties of the said console.  At this point in time, it will be very difficult to find such a unit.  Even at eBay, a pink Playstation 2 commands a higher price than the $99 SRP Sony has pegged for its reliable gaming platform.

What makes a pink PS2 even more desirable?

Just the thought of playing God of War and God of War 2 with the man’s man Kratos – a chauvinistic pig if we may add – on a shiny pink gaming machine would be enough for some timeless enjoyment.

Nintendo DSi, Pink Casing
Gaming On The Go, In Style

nintendodsi1

Nintendo wants us to forget about the Sony PSP amidst rumors of a Sony PSP2 coming in the winter of 2009.

Nintendo even wants us to forget about its own products, the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo DS Lite.

With the recent release of its newest handheld product, Nintendo wants to redefine the portable gaming world.

Enter the Nintendo DSi.  Though similar in form to its predecessors, it packs a boatload of new features that can classify it as a new handheld machine altogether.  When it was first released in Japan last year, the Nintendo DSi sold out in a matter of hours.  When it was released in the US last April of 2009, giant retail outlets like Walmart and Best Buy were reporting sellouts as well.  There is no doubt that the Nintendo DSi is a global blockbuster!

What makes Nintendo DSi a “must buy” for gamers on the go?  Consider the following features:

- Two 3.25 inch screens, 17% bigger than previous incarnations of the gaming system.
- Two built-in cameras for a variety of applications.
- A more portable design which is 12% thinner than previous versions of the handheld console.
- An external SD memory slot for extra storage space.
- Improved audio functions that rival the best MP3 players in the market today.
- Additional level of brightness.
- Built-in photo manipulation software program.

Amazing, right?

But there is one question that you and me are particularly concerned about, for certain: does the Nintendo DSi come in pink?

Alas, here’s the deal – it’s a good news, bad news scenario.

Good news is that, yes, there exists pink Nintendo DSi units and they are beautiful!  They look so elegant and unique!  Imagine playing one of these pink handheld consoles while waiting for the bus, or while waiting for your flight, and people will be amazed at its smooth, feminine exterior.  And the color will jive well with the feminine stuff you will carry!

Now, the bad news – the pink Nintendo DSi has yet to be released in the US.  The pink Nintendo DSi units you see on TV or on the internet are all from Japan.  The only way you can get one, as of this writing, is by ordering a unit from one of the import shops that ship items to the US from the Far East.

Will Nintendo ever release pink DSi units in the US?   Probably yes, but not in the near future.  Remember, it took almost 2 years before Nintendo released a pink Nintendo DS for the American market.  It may take just as long to release a pink Nintendo DSi.

But a pink Nintendo DSi is a thing of absolute beauty.  There is a Japanese term that is perfect for it.  “Kawaii.”  It is an item that any pink lover must have!
